Covent Garden Station on the London Underground: An Actor Said to Have Been Stabbed to Death Often Appears at Night
· TheMyths Society President
Covent Garden Station on the London Underground has many theaters nearby. With many old theaters come many ghost stories.
People at the station tell a story: In the late 19th century, a popular actor was stabbed to death by a disgruntled colleague at the theater's back door and collapsed on the steps. It is said that as he lay dying, he uttered the words, "I will return."
This actor used to walk this street often, buying bread, waiting for the bus, visiting friends. Later, the Underground was built here.
It is said that after the last train leaves at night, station staff see a tall man on the platform, wearing old-fashioned clothes and gloves, standing motionless by a pillar. When approached, he vanishes.
Some passengers also say that on the late-night platform, they have felt a light tap on the shoulder; turning around, there was no one there.
This rumor has no official statement; the Underground company never responds. Yet every year, some tourists deliberately visit that station at night, hoping to see if the legendary figure has come.
