Outside Resurrection Cemetery in Chicago, a girl in a white dress always wants a ride

Along Archer Avenue on the outskirts of Chicago, there is a cemetery called "Resurrection Cemetery". Since the 1930s, drivers have said that when driving past this stretch of road at night, they encountered a young girl, with blonde hair, wearing a white dance dress, waving by the roadside.

Some say they met her at a nearby dance hall. They danced together, her hand was terrifyingly cold. At night, she said she wanted to go home and asked him to drive her there. When passing the cemetery, she suddenly said: "Stop here." Then, she disappeared from the car. Some drivers said she just wanted a ride, got out at the cemetery gate, walked into the iron fence, and vanished.

In August 1976, someone passing by the cemetery saw two bars of the iron fence twisted, as if there were two small handprints on them, as if someone had gripped the iron bars with their hands and pried them outward. The next day, it was published in the newspaper, and crowds of people came to see. The cemetery staff said a truck had backed into the fence, and later someone tried to use a blowtorch to straighten the bent iron bars, which created those marks. Later, the cemetery removed those two bars.

Who is that girl? Everyone calls her "Resurrection Mary". Some say she was a girl named Mary who died in a car accident on her way home from a dance hall in 1934, buried in this cemetery, and loved dancing most in life. Others say she was another girl named Maria, of Lithuanian descent, who died at a dance in 1927. These names came later; there are no definite records, and no one can prove which one is the original.

Such stories have various versions in Europe, Japan, and Taiwan. The "girl" in them always gets into the car and then disappears.

Even today, people driving past that cemetery on Archer Avenue at night still unconsciously slow down and glance at the roadside.
