1876年,肯塔基的一户人家院子里掉下了肉

On March 3, 1876, in a small town in Kentucky, USA, a housewife was making soap in her yard. It was a clear day. Suddenly, pieces of something fell from the sky, like snowflakes, landing in her yard. The area covered was roughly ninety meters long and forty-five meters wide, with nothing falling elsewhere.
She walked over and picked one up. It was meat. Some pieces were the size of a palm, white; some looked like lungs; some looked like fat.
Neighbors soon arrived. Two gentlemen plucked up their courage to taste a piece, saying it tasted like mutton, while others said it tasted like venison. The news quickly spread to newspapers, and Scientific American magazine also reported it.
Samples were sent to several scientists. After examining them, some said it was a type of algae that grows on the ground and swells after rain, making it seem as if it had fallen from the sky; another doctor examined it and said it was lung tissue, possibly from a horse or possibly from an infant. Several theories existed, none convincing the others.
The explanation most widely accepted later was vultures. Vultures eat animal carcasses, and if frightened, they regurgitate the contents of their stomachs. Since a flock of vultures often flies together, when one vomits, the others follow suit, and these things fall from the sky onto a small area.
More than a hundred years have passed since this incident, and to this day, it is still often cited as an example of "meat falling from the sky."
