There's a forest in Romania where all the trees bend in one direction, and someone once took a photo of a flying saucer

In northwestern Romania there is a city called Cluj, and outside the city lies a forest called Hoia-Baciu Forest, covering less than three hundred hectares and only a few kilometers from the urban area.
As soon as you step into this forest, the first thing you see is the trees. Every single one of them grows crookedly—the trunks twist northward from the roots, make a turn at a bit over a meter high, then continue growing upward, as if someone had bent them by hand, with some even approaching ninety degrees. In the middle of the forest there is a circular clearing about fifty meters in diameter; the grass around it grows lushly, but on that patch of land nothing grows at all.
The name of the forest comes from a legend: long ago, a shepherd named Baciu led two hundred sheep into the forest, and no one ever saw them again.
The forest truly became famous in the late 1960s. In 1968, a technician serving in the military named Emil Barnea took a photograph in the forest: a bright disc-shaped object in the sky. The photo later spread throughout Eastern and Western Europe and was published in many magazines. Afterward, a researcher in Cluj named Alexandru Sift spent many years collecting photographs taken in the forest and people's accounts: some got lost in the forest and returned to the starting point after an hour; some developed red rashes on their bodies, some had headaches, some felt something was watching them, and the batteries of their mobile phones and cameras mysteriously drained.
The local elders put it more directly: those who go in cannot sleep well at night.
Scientists' explanations are rather simple, roughly: it might have something to do with the soil, or the saplings were bent by snow and blown crooked by the wind when they first grew, and then remained that way. But why only this patch of trees is like this, while the same species nearby are straight, no one can say very clearly. As for the clearing where no grass grows, soil tests found nothing abnormal.
Now, it has become a small attraction in Cluj, with paths and signposts. Many people go there in the evening, bringing cameras, stand for a while in front of the clearing, then walk back along the way they came.
