Henan Fengmen Village: Claimed as China's No. 1 Ghost Village, Later Someone Went to Investigate

There is a very famous place online called Fengmen Village, dubbed "China's No. 1 Ghost Village". It is located in Qinyang, Henan, near Shanxi, a village hidden in the mountains, with dozens of old houses, empty, uninhabited, stone walls and blue tiles, connected by a narrow mountain road.

The first rumor is about the name: "Fengmen", meaning sealing the door to cut off descendants, men couldn't marry wives, women couldn't bear children, so the whole village moved out overnight. The second is a master's chair placed in the only north-south facing house in the village, said that anyone who sat on it would develop a fever, talk nonsense, and even die an unnatural death after returning home. The third is that in 1963, three young people from Zhengzhou went to the village for sketching, and on the day they entered, a funeral was taking place in one of the households, with a dead person's pillow thrown in the middle of the road. Someone thought it was in the way and kicked it aside, and that night all three dreamed of a face beside their pillows. Later someone made a movie based on this story, called "A Face Beside the Pillow".

On January 5, 2008, a sixteen-person investigation team actually went in to take a look. Their conclusion was: the village's original name was Fengmen Village, and the name was related to the terrain, with strong winds at the mountain pass, not sealing the door at all. The villagers moved out in batches starting from 1981, and by 2007 there was no one left, for very realistic reasons: children had difficulty going to school, teachers were unwilling to come, the river at the village entrance often dried up all year round, making it impossible to farm, young people went out to work, and the remaining people moved to the town at the foot of the mountain.

The investigation team also deliberately placed food outside their tents at night, and found the next day that nothing had been touched, not even any wild animals coming to steal food, which made them feel a bit strange.

As for that master's chair, they speculated it was for the village elders to sit and bask in the sun.

After such a report came out, there were still many people online who didn't believe it, saying the investigation team only stayed there for one day. To this day, Fengmen Village remains an empty village, with the mountain wind blowing through the windows of the old houses, and in netizens' posts, there are still people saying that those who went there kept having nightmares after returning.
