In 1987, a masked person hijacked a Chicago TV station's late-night news broadcast

On November 22, 1987, Sunday, just after nine in the evening, a TV station in Chicago, USA was broadcasting sports news. The screen suddenly went black, and then a person appeared, wearing a rubber mask called "Max Headroom", who was a very popular virtual host at the time. A metal plate behind him was shaking violently, and there was a buzzing noise from the speakers.
The person shook his head in front of the camera, said a few unintelligible words, mentioned the name of a local announcer, and then the screen cut back. The whole process lasted about twenty seconds or so. The announcer looked bewildered and said to the camera: "Well, you saw it, we have some technical problems on our end."
Two hours later, on another TV station, which was broadcasting the British sci-fi series "Doctor Who", the same image appeared again. This time, it lasted for a minute and a half. The masked person spoke while laughing, sang a few lines of a song, then turned around to show his buttocks, letting someone hit him with a fly swatter, before the screen ended.
The TV station staff were shocked, and so were the audience. The Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Bureau of Investigation both came to investigate. They investigated for many years and found nothing.
Experts at the time said that to do this, one would need a high-power transmitter aimed at the TV station's signal receiving antenna, using a stronger signal to override the original one. Not many people could do this; it required equipment, knowledge of the TV station's frequency, and standing in a position where they could aim at the antenna.
The statute of limitations on the case has expired. More than thirty years have passed, and no one has come forward to admit it, nor has anyone been caught.
Some speculate it was a few young radio enthusiasts; others say it was an insider. But who the masked person actually was remains a mystery to this day.
