Poyang Lake Old Master Temple: A Japanese Ship in 1945, Hundreds of People, Gone in One Night

North of Poyang Lake in Jiangxi, there is a stretch of water, and beside it stands an Old Master Temple, which locals call "China's Bermuda Triangle."

The water here is not wide, but it is deep, with a narrow deep channel at the bottom of the lake. When the wind is strong and the waves are high, ships are most likely to have accidents here. Legend has it that ships often sink mysteriously on this stretch of water, sinking quickly and without sound.

The most famous incident occurred on April 16, 1945. It is said that a Japanese transport ship named "Kobe Maru", carrying over two hundred Japanese soldiers, sailed into the waters near the Old Master Temple and then disappeared. Legend has it that the ship stopped on the water for a very short time, a flash of white light, and the ship was gone, leaving no wreckage.

Later, some contemporary ships also had accidents in this area. Some say there are undercurrents underwater, some say there is a magnetic field at the bottom of the lake, and some say there is a water monster. Researchers' explanations are more simple: the terrain at the bottom of the lake is narrow and deep, the water flow becomes rapid here, forming whirlpools; the sand mountains by the lake are blown into the water by the wind, which can also change the water flow; on the water surface, strong winds suddenly arise, leaving no time to dodge.

In various sources, the numbers, times, and accounts of sunken ships are all different and do not match each other. The only thing consistent is that local fishermen still do not want to stay overnight there to this day. Their rule is that when passing the Old Master Temple, they must dock, burn incense, kowtow, and then leave.
