人的头顶和两肩有三把火,夜路上被人拍肩膀不要回头,说的是这个

There is a folk saying that a person has three fires: one on the crown of the head, one on the left shoulder, and one on the right shoulder. These three fires are a person's “yang energy”; the stronger they are, the less the evil things dare to approach.

That is why elders warn again and again: when walking at night, if someone pats your shoulder from behind, do not turn around in a hurry. Because once you turn, one of the fires on your shoulder is blown out by you. If the one who patted you is “not human,” and you turn around again, it is even easier for you to be noticed by it.

So what is it that pats the shoulder? Elders in the Northeast say it is most likely a Huang Pi Zi, though some say it is a fox. On the road at night, they follow people walking, and when the person is not paying attention, they pat the shoulder once. When the person turns around, they blow a breath; once the person is bewitched by them, they will follow it away.

By the same logic, some say that at night you should not casually pat someone's shoulder, nor blow at someone's crown, for fear of blowing out the fire. Children playing and roughhousing are also not allowed to pat heads or shoulders.

If you are patted on the road, what should you do? The method taught by the elders is: do not turn around, do not make a sound, keep walking forward, until you reach a place with lights and people.

This rule is widely spread, in both the south and the north. No one from any place can say clearly where the “three fires” specifically come from. But many people have had such a feeling: on the road at night, someone lightly patted you from behind; you turned around, and there was no one, only the wind.
