In Delhi's Ruined Fortress, Someone Writes Letters to the "Jinn" Every Thursday

In Delhi, India, there is a 14th-century old fortress called Firoz Shah Kotla. Now it is a ruin and a tourist attraction.
Every Thursday afternoon, many people come here, bringing flowers, incense, milk, and a piece of paper. They enter a dark place inside, light a lamp, say a few words, and put the written notes into small niches.
These notes are written to the "Jinn," meaning the genies. People believe that jinn live in this ruined fortress, that they can see people and help them. The paper lists wishes: wanting to find a job, wanting to have a child, wanting to be cured of an illness, wanting to change neighbors.
Some people write complaints, saying they have been bullied by someone, asking the jinn to help uphold justice.
The person in charge says that among those who come, there are people of all religions, no distinction of faith, some wearing suits, and some arriving by car. It is said that this habit started in the 1970s, and people have come week after week, continuing to this day.
Those notes are collected by someone the next day; where they go, people don't say much.
In this ruined fortress, there is also a stone pillar over two thousand years old, left by Ashoka, moved here from another place. Every Thursday, on one side is the stone pillar, on one side is candlelight, on one side are people, standing there quietly, waiting.
