In the swamps of the Congo, there is something with a very long neck

In the north of the Republic of the Congo, there is a large swamp that is very difficult to enter, called Likouala, and there is a lake called Lake Tele. The locals say that in the lake and the nearby rivers lives an animal called "Mokele-mbembe", which means "the one who stops the river".

The description is as follows: its body is like a small elephant, its skin is brownish-gray and smooth, its neck is very long, its head is very small, and its tail is also very long, like a plesiosaur or a sauropod dinosaur. It is in the water and also on the shore, eating a vine plant called "Moliba", and is not very friendly to humans, and will capsize small boats.

Outsiders first heard of it in 1913. A German expedition, after entering this region, made a note in a report that the locals told them there was a very large animal in the river with a long neck, not a hippopotamus, nor a crocodile.

In the eighties, an American biologist, Roy Mackal, led a team and went there twice in 1980 and 1981, interviewing many locals and recording many descriptions. In 1983, a Congolese zoologist said that he saw with his own eyes something with a long neck emerging from the water by Lake Tele. But he did not leave a clear photo.

After that, many expeditions went, and the results were more or less the same: the locals described it vividly, over and over, drew pictures for you, imitated its calls, but outsiders did not capture it, did not find feces, did not find footprints, did not find bones.

The general view of scholars is: it is some animal from local legends, combined with the imagination of outsiders, turning into a dinosaur. For example, some descriptions are related to elephants, rhinos, and pythons, while others come from a local mythical creature, which in legend is not necessarily real.

This place is still very difficult to enter today, partly because of the swamp, and partly because there are no roads. So this question, no one can say there is an answer, and no one can say there isn't.
